Into the Galaxies – RMS 2015-2016
All Rye Middle School art students, enrolled with Ms. Tamalonis, created unique versions of a story. The length of depth of each student’s narrative was completely child-motivated. While the writing was not graded, it directed Do Now illustration assignments. Other major story-based art assignments varied by grade level. 3D challenges, reinforcing and introducing math and engineering skills addressed STEAM initiatives, while both the kids’ 2D and 3D work nurtured understanding of the principles and elements of design.
The Original Story:
There was once a thriving planet, but over time, the health of the planet declined. One citizen retreated into a secret workshop to devise a plan for an exodus. Joined by a few carefully chosen companions, who were picked for survival skills, the character led an intergalactic journey to a new planet, where the crew discovered new life forms and where they made foreign friends. For a decade, citizens from the two planets learned from each other. Finally, the original group returned to save their home.
